Where to apply
Visa applications within SA can be made at the VFS (Visa Facilitation Services) center or office nearest to you. If outside of South Africa, they can be made at your nearest SA mission or consulate.
Visa applications can also be made somewhere else, if the South African consular representative has authorised such an arrangement. However, one should then expect longer processing times.
NB: Under no circumstances can you apply for a visa once you have arrived at a port of entry, such as an airport or border post, in South Africa. You will be sent back to your country of origin immediately if you try to do this. If you require a visa to enter South Africa, finalise your visa BEFORE you arrive in South Africa. Once you are in South Africa, any further visa or permit applications must be made at the nearest office of the Department of Home Affairs (the DHA). You would do this, for example, if you wanted to extend your stay in South Africa, or apply for a different kind of visa.
