A Treaty Visa is issued to those persons participating in an activity covered by an international treaty agreement between South Africa and another country.
In order to apply for a Treaty Visa, you need to submit Form BI-1738 – available from the Department of Home Affairs – and a letter with your application stating the following.
- The relevant treaty
- The nature of the activity involved
- The fact that you are authorised to participate in this activity
- The nature of your participation in the activity – specifically what you will be doing in South Africa
- The duration of the activity
Take note: instead of “activity” as used in the list above, the Department of Home Affairs uses the word “programme” when dealing with applications for the Treaty Visa.
